Happiness is…

Yes, I’m terrible… bla bla bla… I have good intentions, but have had a draining year and the blog wasn’t priority. Forgive me?

Have recently tried to re wire the brain to find joy in the little things. Tonight it’s hanging on the couch with himself, having a (bottle of) wine or two, and getting shnugs from the fur baby. Couldn’t ask for more. Oh! Actually, an excuse to look at Chris Evans for an hour or two?! Civil war let’s be having ya!

Happy new year yis pack of rides!!

Today’s outfit (03/05/2015)

For himself’s birthday I took him to Carton House as part of his present, we aren’t going to get away this year – money pit of a house will do that, but totally worth it!, so I wanted to give him (& us) a wee treat.

For his birthday dinner I wore this gorgeous blue print dress from U Fashion, I’d bought it before Christmas and couldn’t close it, so it was my goal to fit into it! Yay me! My nude high heel pumps are from Penneys, and my jewellery is a mixture of vintage and gifts.

I also gave some new make up a go: foundation & ‘one step’ primer from Stila, and this Rimmel mascara which is amazing! One coat of the mascara is perfect for daytime, but for evening I like a bit more drama so two coats was perfect! The brush is perfect for getting right into the base of the lashes

Outfit Opportunities

I had a really lovely Christmas, with a couple of days off (a rare thing in the world of retail) to spend with my family, himself & to just recharge the batteries. In my house, because we’re all grown up, we do secret Santa amongst the “children”, and my brother in law bought me this gorgeous dark (French?) navy midi skirt from UFashion – I may have been gushing about it on twitter, possibly.

(It doesn’t look as nice in the pic & on the hanger as it is on)

So I wanted to come up with some outfits that it would look nice in & here we are!

These two I thought would be nice and casual whilst still keeping a smart, pulled together look (the one on the left with the burgundy airtex is very Marisa Cooper from The OC). Both would look really nice with a pair of ballet flats, court heels, or pretty sandals in summer.

The one on the right could be “roughed” up a bit by throwing on a leather jacket over the striped h&m tee, (or a plain white one would be really nice too) and a pair of ankle boots or shoe boots like these ones:

The other combinations I came up with from my own clothes were:

The one on the left (long sleeved tee is from h&m) could be dressed up with a big statement necklace and shoe boots like those above, or a pair of nude court heels, or dressed down with a nice cardi, coloured tights and ballet flats (Office have some really lovely ones in stock all the time!). The one on the left is slightly more dressy to start with because of the sparkly shoulders, and the same dressing up/down would work for it. That short sleeved jumper is from F&F at Tesco & I’ve had it forever but there are plenty like it in the shops at the moment.

There are so many options as to how you could style it.

I also got some fabulous make up as part of my presents which I will be road testing asap so will write about them soon.

Outfit of the day 27/09/2014

Slightly late in getting this online, but better late than never right?! Saturday the 27th was the wedding of one of himself’s best friends, so the glad rags were pulled out & the make up was piled on!

With everything that we’ve had going on with the house I didn’t have a spare chance to go looking for something new to wear (lack of funds also had a high influence!) so I raided my sister’s wardrobe for a dress. And came up trumps with this beauty! The dress is from Monsoon, cardigan from Dunnes Stores, and shoes & clutch are from Penneys.

Make up was fairly natural with a strong brown smokey eye & nude lips, and hair was straightened, the top part volumised & clipped back.

So there ya go!!

Today’s outfit (15/06/14)

Today is Fathers Day so I’m going to hang out with my papa, & wanted to dress up a little for the occasion, and the fact that we are currently in an Irish version of a heat wave.

The striped tee is from H&M, and pink skirt if from Vero Moda. I love contrasting colours – as I’m sure you’ve all noticed by this point!, and really like the way the aqua & pink work together. To bring up the colour of the aqua I teamed these gladiator sandals from Penneys with the outfit to complete the summery look.

Today’s outfit (07/05/14)

Himself bought me tickets & a hotel visit to go see Katy Perry in Belfast as my Christmas present so this week we went up to see her.

I knew I’d be doing a lot of dancing, and we were in the standing section so I wanted to make sure I was going to be comfy!

I wore these black hidden high top wedges from Next, leather look leggings from American Apparel, a long black tank from H&M, a coral embellished shoulder loose fit tee from Cotton On, and my “leather”, ahem, bomber from Penneys.

I kept the accessories simple with a very large gold bangle from Penneys, gold hoop earrings from Accesorize, and a black quilted bag with gold metal work from Penneys.

For my make up I went all out, if you can’t do fake lashes, smokey eye & glitter at a Katy Perry concert when can you?!

Today’s outfit (19/04/14)

This evening myself & himself went to dinner in Findlaters Howth – we had the meat platter for two if you must know!, so it was an excuse to dress up a bit.

I wore this electric blue blazer (looks darker in the pic than it actually is, lighting in my room is a bit crap!) from H&M, cream chiffon tee with scalloped sleeves from Oasis, skinny jeans from Levi’s Curve, striped wedges from River Island (if wedges are good enough for K-Middy, they’re good enough for me!) and clutch from Penneys.

I jazzed it up a bit with this vibrant pink lippy from the Kate Moss range from Rimmel.

Today’s outfit (22/3/14)

My friend Gemma is home from Australia for a few weeks, well she has been home for a few weeks, so we went out for a few casual drinks (you know it will never be just a couple of drinks!).

I wore this electric blue blazer (since it’s still baltic here even though the sun has started to show) from H&M, adding some colour to an otherwise plain & neutral outfit. The long line white tank is from H&M, and the dark grey one underneath is from TopShop, the indigo skinnies are from Penneys (aka Primark), & lace up, high heeled, brogues are from New Look.

The accessories are a black quilted bag & large gold bangle, both from Penneys, and some skinny gold hoop earrings from Accesorize. For my hair a did a ponytail with a lot of volume on the head, and a brown smokey eye.

La Feile Padraig

Happy St Patricks day everyone, I hope you’re decked out in your green finery!!

Have a great day, listen to some trad music, watch The Snapper (if you’ve never heard of it, hit IMDB, it will change your life*), and read the children of lir or tir na nóg. Embrace your Irish roots (even if there isn’t a sniff of an Irish person for 100 years in your family tree!).

And btw it’s PADDY NOT Patty. Patrick is the anglicised version of Padraig, ergo Paddy. Take it from an Irish person who was born here & lives here, you will get a clip across the head if you use the wrong one. There’s a hashtag on twitter & everything.

Today’s outfit (31/1/14)

This evening I went to dinner (Farmer Browns if you’re wondering) for a friend’s birthday. It was all very dressy casual, so I wore this purple wrap top from French Connection, skinny flare jeans from AWear, black blazer from TopShop with a furry gilet underneath for warmth, skull print scarf & bag from Fran & Jane.

I also wore shoes I haven’t worn in forever because my first choice need to be re-heeled, and I forgot how comfy they are! They will be getting another wear soon! They are from Office, and are about 8 years old but have stood the test. I remember feeling a bit guilty about spending €60/70 on them at the time but I guess they were worth it! (I also have them in blue!)

please ignore my snazzy gold insoles!

Make up wise I did a subtle smokey eye using browns & purples. I used a no17 blusher (in plum puff) that I bought by mistake & then realised it was too purple for my colouring so have been using it as an eye shadow since, and the lighter of the two browns in Nars’ Cordura.

My hair I did a reverse plait on one side to keep all the little hairs (from my fringe) back, & then put the rest into a messy bun at the base of my skull. To reverse the dullness that can be caused by dry shampoo (a necessity if you’re going to be handling all those hairs around your face repeatedly) I used Revlon
Style Masters shine spray.
