Today’s outfit 23/05/2015

Sliiiiiightly delayed, but sure, here we are now!

Himself’s brother turned 30 over the weekend, so there was a big party in one of the local pubs for it, so a glammed up outfit was required!!

Not the best picture, but the mirror is too close to my bed, and we fairly had to wedge it onto the nails so there was no chance of my taking it down for a better angle!

White blazer – with black lapels, is from AWear, purple shift dress from New Look, black heels from Penneys, with a black & white clutch from Onyx in Blackrock Shopping Centre.

For my hair I went for a slightly curly blow dry with lots of volume in the roots (my local salon Zinc Hair & Beauty did it perfectly!) so it stayed in shape all night.

My make up consisted of a smokey brown eye, strong brows, (hopefully) dewy skin & a pale lip.
Base: Mac – prep + prime “skin refined treatment soin”, Stila ” one step correct” & “stay all day” foundation & concealer, & Natural Collection pressed powder

Cheeks: Nars blusher in “orgasm”, no7 blusher in “coral flush”, Bobbi Brown shimmer brick compact in “rose” & La Perla bronzer.

Eyes & brows: Stila ‘in the know’ shadow palette – used wind, desert, clay & rain, Nars duo in “cordura”, Rimmel wonder’ful mascara (waterproof, black), Benefit ‘show offs!’ in “candi”, & Rimmel eyebrow pencil in “hazel”

Lips – Lancôme juicy tube (not sure which colour, but it’s a pale shimmery pink)

Today’s outfit (20/3/14)

Today I’m wearing a striped round neck jumper from AWear, with a pink airtex from Nike underneath (love a collar under a jumper) – with a long black tank from H&M underneath that. Jeans are from Levi’s curve range, and navy converse. Comfy for work & smart looking too.

Today’s outfit (31/1/14)

This evening I went to dinner (Farmer Browns if you’re wondering) for a friend’s birthday. It was all very dressy casual, so I wore this purple wrap top from French Connection, skinny flare jeans from AWear, black blazer from TopShop with a furry gilet underneath for warmth, skull print scarf & bag from Fran & Jane.

I also wore shoes I haven’t worn in forever because my first choice need to be re-heeled, and I forgot how comfy they are! They will be getting another wear soon! They are from Office, and are about 8 years old but have stood the test. I remember feeling a bit guilty about spending €60/70 on them at the time but I guess they were worth it! (I also have them in blue!)

please ignore my snazzy gold insoles!

Make up wise I did a subtle smokey eye using browns & purples. I used a no17 blusher (in plum puff) that I bought by mistake & then realised it was too purple for my colouring so have been using it as an eye shadow since, and the lighter of the two browns in Nars’ Cordura.

My hair I did a reverse plait on one side to keep all the little hairs (from my fringe) back, & then put the rest into a messy bun at the base of my skull. To reverse the dullness that can be caused by dry shampoo (a necessity if you’re going to be handling all those hairs around your face repeatedly) I used Revlon
Style Masters shine spray.

Denim deliberations

So I know it’s been a wee while since my last entry *slaps wrist*, sorry about that, but I’m here now & let’s get to it!!

I’ve recently begun to consider buying a denim shirt, they’ve been part of the summer staples for many people over the last few years, and as usual I’m late to the party. I’d been looking around to find one I liked the colour, buttons and general detailing of, as well as the price needing to be right and for it to fit me. Not too much to ask, no?! I didn’t think so.

So I found this one in Penneys during the week, and at €13 I didn’t feel too guilty about it (this saving lark is taking all the fun out of shopping!). It was available in a darker colour, but I preferred the washed look.

I’ve come up with a few outfits I think it might work well with – since my wardrobe consists of jeans, and I’m not quite brave enough to pull off the double denim even if they’re completely different shades of blue.

Firstly I love the casual-ness of this look, the denim in contrast to the brown Cotton On shorts, and white tank top (this one is from TopShop) just looks so very comfy to wear all day. I would wear this outfit with gladiator sandals and a coloured cross-body satchel like these from Penneys, plimsole runners (or Converse), or at a festival (if the weather was decent!) with my wellies & knee socks.

But this can very much be dressed up the occasion asked for it. Swop the casual shoes for wedges like these striped ones from River Island, use a statement clutch like this one from Fran&Jane and some whopper earring like these ones I picked up on the Khaosan Road in Bangkok, and a bangle or four, and you are set! Some smokey eyes or statement lips will really finish off the look.

This shirt could also be taken into nighttime with a more exciting pair of shorts, like the sparkle ones available from AWear, or the French Connection yellow shorts on ASOS. There are so many options, but once the shirt isn’t longer than your shorts it’s all good!

Next I wanted to do up a look where I wouldn’t have to be wearing a skirt or shorts in order to wear the shirt, and I realised while I wasn’t brave enough to wear double blue denim, I could totally wear a different colour pair of jeans!! It’s so clear now! So these jeans are coral cropped skinnies from Oasis, but any colour would be amazing – like yellow, white or pink! This wooden beaded necklace and brown flat sandals, both from Penneys, would make this look really good as a slightly more dressy outfit suitable for work, meeting friends for lunch or even as a date outfit. The flat sandals are from Penneys, and my bag was my mums. Again, an be easily dressed up with some high heels, or wedges, like the ones I used for outfit one.

TopShop have a fantastic range of coloured skinnies at the moment, if you were wondering where you might pick up a pair.

Lastly I wanted to throw together an ensemble that involved a skirt. I decided that the shirt looked best with this tulip/peplum pencil skirt from New Look, and as its quite loose it won’t sit too fitted on your top half, in a nice contrast to the fitted look of the skirt.

This could be worn quite dramatically or discretely. To go for the dramatic look, a pair of statement heels like these studded ones from Penneys will give the outfit a strong edgy vibe. Tie it all in with a black quilted bag, a statement gold bangle, like this one also from Penneys, and earrings like these feather ones from Accessorize.

To create a more subtle look for this outfit, team it with these nude heels from Penneys, but you can get something similar in so many shoe shops, this bag from Onyx in Blackrock Shopping Centre (Co. Dublin), some very simple accessories like this green bangle from Rebecca Davis in the Westbury Mall, and some small drop earrings like these ones from Marks and Spencer.
