Today’s outfit 23/05/2015

Sliiiiiightly delayed, but sure, here we are now!

Himself’s brother turned 30 over the weekend, so there was a big party in one of the local pubs for it, so a glammed up outfit was required!!

Not the best picture, but the mirror is too close to my bed, and we fairly had to wedge it onto the nails so there was no chance of my taking it down for a better angle!

White blazer – with black lapels, is from AWear, purple shift dress from New Look, black heels from Penneys, with a black & white clutch from Onyx in Blackrock Shopping Centre.

For my hair I went for a slightly curly blow dry with lots of volume in the roots (my local salon Zinc Hair & Beauty did it perfectly!) so it stayed in shape all night.

My make up consisted of a smokey brown eye, strong brows, (hopefully) dewy skin & a pale lip.
Base: Mac – prep + prime “skin refined treatment soin”, Stila ” one step correct” & “stay all day” foundation & concealer, & Natural Collection pressed powder

Cheeks: Nars blusher in “orgasm”, no7 blusher in “coral flush”, Bobbi Brown shimmer brick compact in “rose” & La Perla bronzer.

Eyes & brows: Stila ‘in the know’ shadow palette – used wind, desert, clay & rain, Nars duo in “cordura”, Rimmel wonder’ful mascara (waterproof, black), Benefit ‘show offs!’ in “candi”, & Rimmel eyebrow pencil in “hazel”

Lips – LancĂ´me juicy tube (not sure which colour, but it’s a pale shimmery pink)

Birthday bonanza

So February kicked itself off as a month of birthdays (why are there so many?! What are people doing 9months beforehand???) with a celebration on every weekend so far, and the month isn’t over yet!

The first of them was a surprise party for himself’s aunt, so I was inspired by my blog about the humble black blazer (1 blazer, 5 looks) & started my look from there.

I wore the same black blazer from TopShop, I can’t believe I’ve had this so long – 9 years, and I balked at the price when I was buying it, but it shows you often get what you pay for! Under the blazer I wore this multi-coloured dress from Closet, a line carried by A-Wear, I love the nipped in waist, gathered detail, it’s not too revealing (very appropriate for a family party!) and it has pockets!! Always a winning attribute in my book. As it is still February and pretty cold, I wore opaque black tights with it. Goosebumps are not a good look. My shoes are from High Heels, orange skull clutch bag is from Fran&Jane & green bangle is from an independent jewellers in Dublin city called Rebecca Davis. I finished the look with a brown smokey eye, nude lips & lightly straightened hair.

Party two was my brothers birthday lunch with the family. As we were going to a very nice restaurant (Aqua in Howth, north Co. Dublin), I could do pretty without going whole hog. I wore this green tunic with navy detailing from Penneys – Ireland were playing a very critical rugby match that day too so I had to wear green of course! It still being cold I wore it with navy tights (the weird thing sticking out of the bottom of the dress), and these gold sparkley ballet pumps from Faith (they have concessions in Debenhams) and white clutch from Onyx – an independent bag shop near where I work. Make-up wise I went a bit more natural as it was daytime, so I just did some liquid eye liner into a flick with lots of mascara.

Party three was some drinks for my birthday (yay!), and as we were going to a very nice bar (Vintage Cockail Club) in the city centre I went for a very ladylike, grown up look. The black lace, peplum top is from Next, but as it’s very sheer & I didn’t want to be showing off my bra for the night, I wore the pink silk cami top underneath – second pic- I got this from Susan Hunter Lingerie but any thin strapped cami would be ok. My pink pencil skirt is from Fran&Jane, and this outfit is my new favourite creation. I was so comfortable all night. Shoes & bag are from Penneys, and the giant sparkley bangle is from Fran&Jane.

I also had this savage panda ring from DropDead GorJess, gotta love the pandas!

For my make up I did a grey smokey eye with liquid eye liner and a lot of mascara – there would have been lashes if I’d remembered to buy glue *face palm*.

Last but not least was a family dinner for my birthday – the more celebrations I can milk the better! As it was going to be in my parents house I could go low key. I went with this striped boucle jacket from ASOS, over a v-neck white t-shirt from Zara – I have about 6 of these tees, they are such a good investment! Skinny jeans are from the “curve” range from Levi’s, bag is from Onyx – as before, lace up shoe boots are from New Look, and my wooden beads are from Penneys. A messy pony tail and natural make up finished off the look.

Messings & meet ups

So I had a fairly busy week this week, with catch ups & things to be done. I love being busy, now I love my chill out time, but there’s nothing like having a plan too.

Last Saturday was a night out for my friend’s birthday. And as is my tradition I went whole hog with the glamour & dolling myself up. I wore these leather effect leggings from American Apparel (I’ve mentioned them before), still love the fact they’re a medium!! Yes they’re super stretchy but they’re a MEDIUM!!! The grey tunic/dress is from Zara, I’ve had it a few years now, and have gotten so much use from it. It’s possibly one of the comfiest dresses I own, I’m never worried about my cleavage or my tum in it, and that’s why I wanted to wear it out. I teamed this with my quilted bag & whopper heels both from Penneys. Again they’re both a few years old but there are very similar styles of shoes out at the moment. They are about 5inches and make me even more of a giant but because of the platform under the toes they’re super comfy. I call them my dancing shoes, and one advantage I discovered (or recovered) is when you’re a giant, people move out of the way! Yipeee!! With the outfit being so simple I could get away with massive ear-rings, so massive I had to take them off before the end of the night because they hurt my ears! So I back combed the shizz out of my hair, threw it into a messy ponytail & went hell for leather (hehehe) for the rock chick look (lots of eyeliner & mascara to finish it off).

On my day off I got some Christmas shopping done, so that was all about the comfort. I wasn’t going to be trying on (that was the plan anyway) so I didn’t need to have easy to remove clothing. I went with this long sleeved white top from H&M, with this very cute short sleeved green jacket from A-wear (it’s ancient, bought it for a fiver in the sales, a fiver!!), comfy jeans from Levi’s (from their curve range, which I’ve discussed before), & Converse on my feets. My accessories are the blue skull scarf from Fran & Jane, handbag was my mums, and cosy hat from Roxy – I bought it in Australia so not sure if it was available here, but there are deffo similar versions around. I spruced up my look with some pink lippy, I used the no2 from Kate Moss for Rimmel, love the colour & it works for day & night. So I was comfy & cozy to battle the shops.

Yesterday I met up with some friends I hadn’t seen in a while so could go low key while still looking nice. I wore (from the feet) flowery ballet pumps from Penneys, jeans (as before) from Levi’s, long sleeved grey top from Bond Australia (bought in Target, I miss Target), with coral coloured top under from Cotton On (again bought in Australia, but they now have an online store or similar tees are available elsewhere – Gap is always good for them!), with my cosy cardigan from Fran & Jane (or coatigan as the girls were calling it last night) on top. To make myself feel a bit more glammed up I wore some red lippy – cannot beat a nice red lippy – from Benefit (colour is “frenched”), and did a Katniss style plait in my hair.

So that’s my week in catch ups & birthdays.

Birthday bonanza (not mine, *sigh*)

So I had two birthdays this week, first was my Poppa’s birthday, so we had a lovely low key dinner as we’re all going away over the bank holiday weekend to celebrate it properly. We went to a local restaurant McHugh’s Wine & Dine, so I didn’t want to get too dressed up, hate that feeling of being the over dressed person in the place!!! I kept it low key by just wearing my mint green blazer over a white loose fit v-neck tee, with jeans & heels.

The blazer & wooden beads are from Penneys, I bought the blazer at the start of the summer and the beads years ago, so they may not be available but the look would work with any coloured blazer and a different necklace – a knotted silver or gold one would be gorgeous too. The look the white tee is from H&M – it’s one of their basics so they should still be available in-store or online, or even from a different company.

The jeans I wore are from A-Wear. They’re a really dark indigo skinny flare, so they’re lovely and fitted around the tush & hips, but flare out from the knees so they really balance me out & sit really nicely over a pair of high heels. And a darker colour is usually more flattering if like me you don’t have stick thin legs.

I kept the shoes and bag neutral by wearing these brown court shoes from New Look, and the clutch from Onyx, an independent Irish bag store in Blackrock shopping centre in south County Dublin.

The food by the way was fantastic, and very reasonably priced so if you’re in the area, you should deffo check it out!!

So birthday no2, was for one of my very good friends. We were having it in Whitefriar Grill in the city centre, so I decided to get a little bit more glammed up. Food was fantastic, staff were lovely & apparently the brunch is a must!

I decided on the plain black version of the dress I had bought for another friends birthday in August (the one with pink flamingos on it) from (again) Penneys. Since its now October (nearly November – eeeek) I paired it with tights, and a red belt I had yoinked from another dress.

As it was a bit chilly I wore my gorgeous black trench coat from the Savida range from Dunnes Stores. I bought it four years ago & cannot wear it enough. It has gorgeous dark gold lining & stitching, & the back has a kick skirt to give it a more theatrical feel. I love it.

I wore it with my shoes that himself bought me for my birthday from High Heels.ie – man who buys you shoes, always a winner! , and this gorgeous red patent clutch from Fran&Jane. I bought the clutch for a wedding last year and have gotten so much use out of it.

I kept my jewellery simple with a silver watch, bangle & studs as I had decided to go for a red lippy. I used “frenched” from Benefit, but wasn’t keen on the liner they suggested to go with it – felt it was too dark, so I used one by no7 (15 Fire) and a lip lock of course to keep the colour.

So there you have it, another week, another (couple of) ensemble(s).

‘Til next time……
