Holidays & hang outs

So, apologies for no postings recently I’ve been on my holliers enjoying myself, and eating & drinking rings around myself! Good fun all round!

I’m not going to post about what I wore on holidays, well there will be two outfits, because I was there for 10 days & that’s a lot of outfits. So I will have a couple of outfits from holidays, and from things I’ve done since I’ve come home.

First up; I wore this outfit when sight-seeing – we went to the Titanic museum in Cherbourg, as its super comfy and looks very pretty at the same time. The white top is from A-Wear, I love the little chiffon flowers at the neckline – makes it a bit prettier than a normal tank/sleeveless tee. The skirt is from Zara – the rusty colour is such a good neutral to have for so many outfits, and it has pockets!! My little green satchel is from Penneys and the white espadrilles are from the local supermarket near where we were staying in France.

Second ensemble is what I wore for our (never ending) journey home, I wanted to be comfy for the train journey after the overnight boat. The striped top I picked up in Deacathlon – this absolutely amazing massive warehouse shop that sells everything because you cannot go to France & not pick up an authentic Breton tee! The jeans are from Levi’s curve range with the ends rolled up a few times & the espadrilles again are again from the local supermarket.

Third outfit is for when we went to the outdoor gig for Blur in the grounds of Kilmainham hospital, the week we came home. Having worked at far too many outdoor gigs in Ireland, and with the weather leading up to the gig being pretty manky I decided to play safe & keep dry. My boots are from Office – they’re ancient but you’ll probably get something similar elsewhere. The indigo jeggings are from TopShop, & white printed tee is from Lady Umbrella – have so many of their tees now, love their stuff. My yellow raincoat is from the souvenir shop at the Titanic museum in Cherbourg *hangs head in shame at buying clothes in a souvenir shop*, but I have been searching for a yellow rain coat forever, and I love how the cotton lining is striped. The satchel is as before.

Look four is an outfit for another goodbye drinks for a friend in The Grafton Lounge. The white blazer is from AWear – love the black lapel, gives it a bit of an edge. Underneath is a white tank is from TopShop, the gorgeous print skirt is from Promod (another sneaky holiday buy) – and it has pockets – starting to notice the thing for skirts/dresses with pockets is a bit strong! My shoes & large bangle are from Penneys, and the skull bag is from Fran&Jane .

Look five is from a birthday BBQ with himself’s family. My mint blazer is from Penneys, and the white v-neck tee (&navy cami underneath) is from H&M. The indigo skinnies are from Penneys, slippers are Jimmy Choo, and bag was my mums.

And lastly, look six. This one is one I wore just hanging out with my family. The grey cardi is from New Look, the polka dot top is from H&M – it has a ruffled neck & an elasticated nipped in waist & is super comfy but smart enough for work wear. The skinnies & leopard ballet flats are both from Penneys.

1 Jacket, 5 Ideas

So I haven’t had a very exciting time of it since my last post, hence my silence (apologies btw), so I decided to write a post that might give some inspiration for what you already have in your wardrobe! Does that make sense?

Basically I wanted to show 5 ways that you could wear an item that you may not have tried before. This is all about the humble black blazer.

My one is from Topshop, and I’ve had it about 8/9years so it was deffo a good investment!

First look.

This is geared towards a daytime look – possibly for shopping, going to the cinema, meeting friends for lunch/dinner, all very casual. The blazer as before, bright print tee is from Cotton On, skinny jeans are from Levi’s (the curve range as before), ballet pumps & green satchel are both from Penneys. A chunky brightly coloured bangle & a bright scarf would tie it all in together, & really finish off your outfit.

Second look.

This is a good look for a slightly more dressy look, one that might be worn on a date, at a BBQ, or out for drinks with friends. White lace detail vest is from Abercrombie, coral jeans are from Oasis, if you bought brightly coloured jeans last summer or any coloured jeans these will work. I like to roll them up so they’re a nice capri length & wear them with wedges like these ones from River Island or with gladiator sandals. A pale coloured bag like this quilted one from Penneys (as before). To accessorise this, some simple bangles (either bright colours or metallics will work) and earrings will complete the look.

Third look.

Again this is quite casual so may be suited more to occasions like those from look one. The stripy jersey dress is from H&M – it is super comfy, and I love the 3/4 length sleeves. I mainly wear it with tights & boots like these ones from Barratt’s (again had them forever, but they’ve been a great buy), and quite often will wear coloured tights instead of the usual black. The bag was a gift, but any casual bag will work with this. Just add a pretty scarf and you’ll be set!

Fourth look.

This is a look I would quite often wear on a night out, because the jacket works as part of the look as well as being a functional item. The gold one shoulder body con dress is from Drop Dead GorJess, black studded shoes & black quilted bag are from Penneys (as before). I would usually wear this with simple accessories & a very volumised ponytail.

Fifth look.

This is one that I have worn for a more formal occasion (wedding, christening, graduation, or family event) as its very ladylike, very simple and very classic. The blue gathered waist dress is from Monsoon, I bought it about 6 years ago, but with Kate Middleton wearing similar styles recently it’d be quite easy to find something like this in the shops. I like to wear it with these nude courts & clutch from Penneys, as these will keep the focus on the gorgeous colour of the dress. Very simple silver or gold jewellery will work with this outfit, keeping with the simple elegance of the look.

Birthday bonanza (not mine, *sigh*)

So I had two birthdays this week, first was my Poppa’s birthday, so we had a lovely low key dinner as we’re all going away over the bank holiday weekend to celebrate it properly. We went to a local restaurant McHugh’s Wine & Dine, so I didn’t want to get too dressed up, hate that feeling of being the over dressed person in the place!!! I kept it low key by just wearing my mint green blazer over a white loose fit v-neck tee, with jeans & heels.

The blazer & wooden beads are from Penneys, I bought the blazer at the start of the summer and the beads years ago, so they may not be available but the look would work with any coloured blazer and a different necklace – a knotted silver or gold one would be gorgeous too. The look the white tee is from H&M – it’s one of their basics so they should still be available in-store or online, or even from a different company.

The jeans I wore are from A-Wear. They’re a really dark indigo skinny flare, so they’re lovely and fitted around the tush & hips, but flare out from the knees so they really balance me out & sit really nicely over a pair of high heels. And a darker colour is usually more flattering if like me you don’t have stick thin legs.

I kept the shoes and bag neutral by wearing these brown court shoes from New Look, and the clutch from Onyx, an independent Irish bag store in Blackrock shopping centre in south County Dublin.

The food by the way was fantastic, and very reasonably priced so if you’re in the area, you should deffo check it out!!

So birthday no2, was for one of my very good friends. We were having it in Whitefriar Grill in the city centre, so I decided to get a little bit more glammed up. Food was fantastic, staff were lovely & apparently the brunch is a must!

I decided on the plain black version of the dress I had bought for another friends birthday in August (the one with pink flamingos on it) from (again) Penneys. Since its now October (nearly November – eeeek) I paired it with tights, and a red belt I had yoinked from another dress.

As it was a bit chilly I wore my gorgeous black trench coat from the Savida range from Dunnes Stores. I bought it four years ago & cannot wear it enough. It has gorgeous dark gold lining & stitching, & the back has a kick skirt to give it a more theatrical feel. I love it.

I wore it with my shoes that himself bought me for my birthday from High Heels.ie – man who buys you shoes, always a winner! , and this gorgeous red patent clutch from Fran&Jane. I bought the clutch for a wedding last year and have gotten so much use out of it.

I kept my jewellery simple with a silver watch, bangle & studs as I had decided to go for a red lippy. I used “frenched” from Benefit, but wasn’t keen on the liner they suggested to go with it – felt it was too dark, so I used one by no7 (15 Fire) and a lip lock of course to keep the colour.

So there you have it, another week, another (couple of) ensemble(s).
