Today’s outfit (03/08/2015)

Being a bank holiday (& sorta sunny) I felt like getting the legs out. Mainly because I wanted to wear this skirt is bought in the sales (€12!!). Any excuse huh?!?

Denim shirt is from Penneys/Primark, navy string strap tank is from h&m (as are the gold gladiator sandals), striped stretch pencil skirt is from Next & the rose gold watch was a houseiversary present from himself to celebrate one year since we got the keys to our house!

Also, to give this a bit of oomph I used a bright pink lippy – Kate Moss for Rimmel, number 20.

Wonderful weekend whimsy!

Last weekend I went to Galway with my friend Orla (she writes a fab blog here too; nice simple things) for her thirtieth second twenty first birthday! Her dad lives in a small town (or is it a village? I’m not entirely sure how to determine which is which!) outside the city & he very kindly allowed us run riot utilise his house as he wasn’t going to be there, which was fairly awesome as it is an amazing house!

So after work on Friday we all piled into one of the girls’ cars & toddled on across the country with one tiny pee break for someone with the bladder of a small child (me!), and possibly a stop in Ballinasloe to make the birthday girl go into the most old man pub we could find & make her do a shot! As soon as we got to the house it was all very chilled out with a home made curry & wine!

On Saturday we wanted to go into the Christmas market in Eyre Square, and since it was cold I needed to layer up! What I wore was; my grey slouchy cardi from Gap, denim shirt from Penneys (or Primark), long grey tank from Jack Wills, black leggings from Danskin, boots from Office, blue scarf from Monsoon, & (odd) multi-coloured socks from Wacky Sox. Now Wacky Sox are my go to for winter under boots, and sometimes just as normal socks, because apart from keeping my bottom half of my legs warm, they’re proper sports socks designed for hockey & rugby so the soles are really cushioned and that means comfy feet all day long!

Saturday night was for fun!! We were going all out to nice bars & a very nice night club and we looked savage (if I do say so myself)! I wore my lace peplum top from Next, with a long black string top from H&M underneath, and a studded belt from Penneys around my waist, my “leather” leggings are from American Apparel, bag & sparkly bangles are from Fran&Jane, and my beautiful shoes are from HighHeels.ie.

Pretty sure this picture will summarise the night;

Sunday was travelling so was in comfies!

Today’s outfit (24/8/13)

So today I went to spend time with a friend after work & wanted to talk about what I was wearing.

As it was only sitting in her kitchen I stayed in my comfy clothes. My denim shirt is from Penneys, grey skinnies are from Levi’s curve range, and my Wonder Woman converse were a Christmas present but they are available from Schuh.

So there you go! Comfy comfy!

Denim deliberations

So I know it’s been a wee while since my last entry *slaps wrist*, sorry about that, but I’m here now & let’s get to it!!

I’ve recently begun to consider buying a denim shirt, they’ve been part of the summer staples for many people over the last few years, and as usual I’m late to the party. I’d been looking around to find one I liked the colour, buttons and general detailing of, as well as the price needing to be right and for it to fit me. Not too much to ask, no?! I didn’t think so.

So I found this one in Penneys during the week, and at €13 I didn’t feel too guilty about it (this saving lark is taking all the fun out of shopping!). It was available in a darker colour, but I preferred the washed look.

I’ve come up with a few outfits I think it might work well with – since my wardrobe consists of jeans, and I’m not quite brave enough to pull off the double denim even if they’re completely different shades of blue.

Firstly I love the casual-ness of this look, the denim in contrast to the brown Cotton On shorts, and white tank top (this one is from TopShop) just looks so very comfy to wear all day. I would wear this outfit with gladiator sandals and a coloured cross-body satchel like these from Penneys, plimsole runners (or Converse), or at a festival (if the weather was decent!) with my wellies & knee socks.

But this can very much be dressed up the occasion asked for it. Swop the casual shoes for wedges like these striped ones from River Island, use a statement clutch like this one from Fran&Jane and some whopper earring like these ones I picked up on the Khaosan Road in Bangkok, and a bangle or four, and you are set! Some smokey eyes or statement lips will really finish off the look.

This shirt could also be taken into nighttime with a more exciting pair of shorts, like the sparkle ones available from AWear, or the French Connection yellow shorts on ASOS. There are so many options, but once the shirt isn’t longer than your shorts it’s all good!

Next I wanted to do up a look where I wouldn’t have to be wearing a skirt or shorts in order to wear the shirt, and I realised while I wasn’t brave enough to wear double blue denim, I could totally wear a different colour pair of jeans!! It’s so clear now! So these jeans are coral cropped skinnies from Oasis, but any colour would be amazing – like yellow, white or pink! This wooden beaded necklace and brown flat sandals, both from Penneys, would make this look really good as a slightly more dressy outfit suitable for work, meeting friends for lunch or even as a date outfit. The flat sandals are from Penneys, and my bag was my mums. Again, an be easily dressed up with some high heels, or wedges, like the ones I used for outfit one.

TopShop have a fantastic range of coloured skinnies at the moment, if you were wondering where you might pick up a pair.

Lastly I wanted to throw together an ensemble that involved a skirt. I decided that the shirt looked best with this tulip/peplum pencil skirt from New Look, and as its quite loose it won’t sit too fitted on your top half, in a nice contrast to the fitted look of the skirt.

This could be worn quite dramatically or discretely. To go for the dramatic look, a pair of statement heels like these studded ones from Penneys will give the outfit a strong edgy vibe. Tie it all in with a black quilted bag, a statement gold bangle, like this one also from Penneys, and earrings like these feather ones from Accessorize.

To create a more subtle look for this outfit, team it with these nude heels from Penneys, but you can get something similar in so many shoe shops, this bag from Onyx in Blackrock Shopping Centre (Co. Dublin), some very simple accessories like this green bangle from Rebecca Davis in the Westbury Mall, and some small drop earrings like these ones from Marks and Spencer.
